World Youth Day Madrid 2011

Pope Benedict XVI has invited the youth of the world to join him in Madrid, Spain for the XXVI World Youth Day in August of 2011. The theme for these days will be, “Rooted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith” (cf Col 2:7)

Please be aware that the definition of “youth” in most countries of the world applies to older teens and young adults into their 30’s. In light of this and the high degree of care which would be required to protect younger pilgrims overseas, Bishop Farrell has decided that no one younger than 18 may participate in World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid as a pilgrim from our diocesan parishes or schools. Furthermore, in order that we can monitor compliance with The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, and to assist in coordinating with Dallas groups at the event itself, it is requested that any groups or individuals participating from our diocese submit travel plans and itineraries to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

POPE BENEDICT PUBLISHES LATEST ENCYCLICAL

On June 29 Pope Benedict published his new encyclical, “Caritas in veritate”, (Charity in Truth). This encyclical is known as a “social encyclical,” one which applies the consistent, traditional moral teachings of the Church to the social and economic challenges of the current day.

Give to those you have chosen the faith of the apostle, the vision of the prophet, and the courage of the martyr. Help us to be faithful disciples of your Son by following the example of Mary.
